One-on-one initial consultation

Your birth journey will begin long before you go into labour. We begin with a casual chat over a cup of tea/coffee where we will start to get to know each other. Here we can discuss your envisions for your upcoming birth and how I can best support you in your birth and postnatal journey.

Our first meet up really is to see if we are the right fit for each other. It is important we have a good connection as I want you to have confidence and trust in me and my ability to support you to believe in yourself.

All initial consultations are free of charge and are obligation free.

Birth Preparation

Birth preparation is very personal— there is no right or wrong way to birth your baby. We all have different views on pregnancy, our care and birth preferences. These include different fears and ideals surrounding birth. What matters to me most is that my clients are fully prepared and aware of all the options that are available to them and have access to up-to-date, evidence based information so they able to make informed and educated decisions about the birth of their baby.

I take an unbiased approach to birth as I am not here to live out my own dream birth experience, but am here to help you achieve yours. Your birth may or may not unfold as you had hoped for, but I will help you prepare for whatever may arise and most importantly, ensure you feel listened to, supported, respected and in control of making your own informed decisions. All women and their partners deserve to have the opportunity to achieve a positive and empowering birth experience.

Deciding your birth preference

Once you are clear about your options, together we will work out your birthing preference based on what you would like from your birth. Becoming familiar with your plans for labour, birth and the immediate postnatal period means I can support you in your decisions.

I am employed by you and work with you to best prepare you for the birth you are wishing for, and also more importantly, for the birth which may unfold. I believe in the mother and her ability to birth her baby her way, whichever way that may be.

Spinning Babies® technique

As a prenatal professional, I provide you with private birthing techniques in the comfort of your home. Together, we will go through topics such as stages of labour, comfort techniques, breathing for birth, birthing positions, postpartum recovery and caring for a newborn.

One of my favourite activities that I share with my clients is the Spinning Babies® technique. These exercises will ease pregnancy discomforts and prepare your body for an easier birth through a number of different balancing techniques and daily exercises. The benefits include achieving a full range of motion, improved flexibility and longer, more capable muscles. These daily activities begin balancing your body to make space for babys best birth position.

Prenatal birth visualization + relaxation techniques

There are a few techniques that I will teach you which will help to prepare your mind and body for birth. Visualisation involves vividly imagining an event before it occurs, and most importantly, picturing it going well. Although it might seem strange at first, picturing your birth going smoothly and imagining how you want your body to respond can make it easier to cope with contractions.

I am also trained in The Rebozo. This ancient relaxing technique acts like an extension of the partner's arms, allowing them to support the mother's weight. Rebozo sifting is an abdominal massage which relaxes the tight uterine ligaments and muscles. The benefits of the Robozo include establishing balance in your body, creating room for your baby, helping the baby to rotate in pregnancy or labour more easily, as well as providing comfort for the mother to relax into labour.

Aromatherapy + therapeutic touch

Using only pure essential oils, I am able to offer my clients therapeutic touch through massaging areas such as the neck, shoulders, back, hands or feet— whichever you need most. This is a great time to discuss any fears you may have about giving birth and using mindfulness to overcome these fears.

I can even teach your partner these techniques so they can assist when I’m not required!

Continuous birth support, at home and at the hospital

Once your labour has begun, I will meet you at your home or at your place of birth when you feel like you are ready for more support. As your doula, I will provide you with relaxation and pain-relieving techniques such as breathing techniques, hands-on physical comfort, emotional support, reassurance and perspective, as well as suggestions for position changes and labour progress. I will be your advocate and encourage partner participation.

My goal is to help you experience a positive and safe birth, no matter what type of birth that may be. The thing that consistently determines whether a woman has positive emotions connected to her birth is not how she delivers, but how she was treated by those with her. I will remain with you for as long as you need me after delivery, until you are comfortable, and your family is ready for private time together.

I am committed to being available to you (by phone and email for the birth) *two weeks before and two weeks after your due date. If the baby is premature, I will make every effort to be there. If for exceptional circumstances I am unavailable, I will do my best to find you a backup doula.

Postnatal support

Once you are home with your new baby I am here to help you transition into motherhood. As wonderful and amazing as a new baby is, those early days can be tough. Having a doula by your side can help reduce the overwhelming exhaustion you may feel so you can get on with enjoying your baby. This might be as simple as cooking a nutritional meal, folding your washing, going for a stroll with you and your baby out in the fresh air for a chat or holding the baby while you catch up on some you time (like take a shower!)

If this is your first baby you may also like me to share with you some breastfeeding and settling baby techniques, including baby massage. Read more about postnatal support here →
